26 Policy and procedures Nelson Academy and Eastern Multi-Academy Trust have a number of policies and procedures that can be found at nelsonacademy.co.uk Special educational needs Some pupils may have emotional, communication, physical or learning difficulties which could mean that they need additional support in school. If you feel that your child might have such difficulties, please speak to us as soon as possible so that we can undertake the appropriate assessments required to ensure that our provision meets their needs. For more information on this please view our SEN Information Report at nelsonacademy.co.uk Autistic Spectrum Disorders Specialist Resource Base (SRB) - Glasgow Class Pupils in Reception, Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2 can attend the Specialist Resource Base but they do need to have a primary diagnosis of Autistic Spectrum Disorder. Thesepupils showsignificant difficulties incommunication, socialisation and flexibility of thinking which is a barrier to them joining a mainstream class for lessons all day. Referrals are made by their current school or pre-school and need to be sent to the SRB admissions panel which meets every half term. The referral will need to be supported by reports from involved professionals such as a paediatrician, speech and language therapist or educational psychologist. Full time placements are offered by Norfolk County Council. The class has a full-time teacher who is supported by highly skilled and experienced teaching assistants. A specialist partner, who is a senior teacher in a complex needs school also provides outreach support. Inclusion in mainstream lessons and events are provided as appropriate along with a differentiated curriculum to meet individual language and learning needs. Transport may be provided by the Local Authority. A shared contact book/home-academy diary is kept to communicate with parents who are regularly invited to the SRB to discuss their child’s progress and also to join in with other academy events.
